One of the most beloved musicals, Oliver vividly brings to life Dickens’ timeless characters with its ever-popular story of the boy who asked for more. Starlight Community Youth Theater, the AriZoni Award-winning troupe based in the North Valley, presents the hit Broadway musical, which is loosely based upon Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.
“We have a talented cast of around 50 ranging in age of 7 through adults,” said artistic director Chris Cox. “Our new venue allows us to present this show on a thrust stage with the audience sitting on three sides. This is a new experience for many of the cast members as well as our audience.”
Oliver will be presented at Starlight’s new venue at The Outlets at Anthem, suite 315 on Nov. 14, 15 and 21 at 7:00 p.m., Nov. 15, 16 and 22 at 2 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.starlightcommunitytheater.org/ or by leaving a message at 623-566-7991. Tickets may also be purchased at the Anthem Community Center and at the Outlets at Anthem Customer Service Desk. Adult and student tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and youth (ages 12 and under) are $8 and $10. Students with ID are $12 at the door. Children ages 2 and under are free.
Oliver is Charles Dickens' touching tale of an orphan boy who runs away from the orphanage and tries to pick a pocket or two for Fagin, but gets caught. As Fagin tries to save him, all Oliver wants to do is go to his uncle, and live a good life. The sensational score is full of Lionel Bart’s irresistible songs including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You've Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I'd Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long As He Needs Me and many more.
Oliver is based on the music, lyrics and book by Lionel Bart, and was produced for the Broadway stage by David Merrick and Donald Albery.
The directors include Chris Cox, artistic director; Caroline Kaupa, vocal director; ariZoni award winner Sherry Henderson, choreography; Pat Bennett, producer; and Joan Colegrove, assistant producer.
